Commercial Construction Field Superintendent

Basic Scope/Purpose:

• Directs activities of workers concerned with construction of buildings, schools or other construction projects.
• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various building methods.
• Assembles members of team (supervisory, clerical, engineering, and other workers) at start of project.
• Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
• Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
• Confers with other supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce.
• Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.
• Prepares, or receives from subordinates, reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
• Ensures that all work performed is conducted in a safe manner and ensures we do our duties within regulatory compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for all of the activities of the job site and ensuring that the project meets budget, schedule and quality expectations 
  • Directs day-to-day on-site supervision of sub-contractors and other employees on the project
  • Monitors expenses to ensure they are meeting budget expectations and if not, make changes to get within budget if possible
  • Plan the schedule to meet the target completion dates and make corrections as weather or other factors impact the schedule
  • Works directly with Safety Manager to communicate and enforce Safety Program, demonstrates commitment to an injury-free environment through own actions and mentoring others
  • Manage schedules ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
  • Responsible for maintaining positive relationships with project owner, architect, inspectors, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Communicates site policies and enforces them
  • Inspects work performed and ensures that it meets our high standards for quality
  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Qualifications:
  • Prefer candidate to have 4-year degree in engineering or construction management degree or equivalent and experience.
  • 10 years minimum experience working on commercial projects. Experience with schools, industrial buildings and office buildings extremely helpful.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational skills, attention to details.
  • Strong math and analytical skills in regard to solving problems
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
